Sorry Nike, Nessie May be a Myth, but we Know King James Got Served

Lebron James

This is a story that has been completely blown out proportion but it still has both the sports and the entertainment media hooked. For days there have been rumors that real evidence existed, but much like a credible snapshot of the Loch Ness monster nothing had ever surfaced to prove that this tale was true until today. Whatever Nike wants you to believe Lebron James really did get served.

He is King  James, basketball royalty so there was apparently no way that his sponsors Nike were going to allow video footage of  Lebron James being dunked on by a 20 year old college nobody. But despite the athletic company’s best efforts a grainy tape of the incident is now being aired on every news program from CNN to Sports center and TMZ.

The “incident’ apparently occurred earlier in the month at a training camp for aspiring ball players at the University of Akron, during an afterhours pickup game. Young players from all over the country had gathered   to attend Nike sponsored “Lebron James Skills Academy” hoping to learn some new skills from the NBA’s reigning MVP. So Nike were apparently more than a little embarrassed when 20 year old Xavier player Jordan Crawford schooled the King instead, executing a perfect two handed dunk right over the Royal One’s head.

This should not have been much more than a quick embarrassment that Lebron could have (and probably did) laugh off. But Nike officials present at the camp moved very quickly and decided to confiscate all the video recordings made of the two videographers who were documenting the camp activities telling them that they had not been given permission to tape after hours activities.

Disgruntled, one of the cameramen Ryan Miller told his story to Sports Illustrated his tale and since then the hunt has been on to find actual footage of this “legendary” David and Goliath moment.

On Wednesday two versions of the dunk were being screened all over the country, one from TMZ and another from embaumation.com. Miller confirmed that this was indeed footage just like he himself had shot although he has no idea where it might have come from, except it looked like it was from the front of the stands.

Neither Lebron James nor Nike has made any comment about the footage but for his part Jordan Crawford is very excited about his new found fame.

This should have been a non story, but Nike’s heavy handed actions made it into a controversy.  Now many want Nike to hand over the original professional quality tape so that the improbable two pointer can be seen in all its glory and Jordan Crawford can truly enjoy his fifteen minutes of fame.
