Jon and Kate Plus Eight

It’s been a busy summer since Jon and Kate Gosselin announced their separation on the finale of their wildly popular reality TV show “Jon and Kate plus Eight”. The show returns on Monday and viewers will have a chance to see how life has changed for both kids and parents.

In earlier seasons many of the show’s legion of fans sympathized with Jon, as his always seemed to be nagged and belittled in public by his feisty wife. Even when the tabloids began to murmur about the father of sextuplets and twins possible infidelities some fans rushed to his defense, suggesting that it was reasonable for him to be driven to such dalliances by his overbearing wife’s behavior.

But what a difference just a few weeks makes. Kate is rarely seen in public without at least some of her 8 children and her most exciting date of the summer seems to have been taking her twin daughters Cara and Maddy the eldest of the Gosselin brood, to see the Jonas Brothers in concert in Philadelphia.

In contrast Jon Gosselin has been seen everywhere. He has been hanging out in the Hamptons with Lindsay Lohan’s estranged father Michael and assorted members of the cast of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey”. He has also been linked with not just one, but two new paramours who both seem to consider themselves his girlfriend. Now many fans are realizing that now they may be seeing Jon’s true colors, and a reason perhaps for Kate’s continual complaints.

TLC, the cable channel that airs the program has revealed little about what viewers can expect from the new season, which is the last that the estranged couple are contracted to make. The station has no worries however that the events of the summer will have put viewers off tuning in.

The original appeal of the show may have been the adorably cute kids, eight year twins and 5 year old sextuplets, but the focus shifted fairly quickly to the dynamic between the bickering parents, who will of course now no longer be sharing the infamous “couch” at the end of the show. The plan is, it is believed, that each parent spends time in the Pennsylvania home they once shared with the children while the other parent stays elsewhere on an alternating basis. The media reports that Jon Gosselin has already found himself a bachelor pad in New York City while Kate has denied rumors that she will make a part time move to Rockville, Maryland, preferring to find a place as close to her children as possible.

Another big question that viewers will be tuning in to get answered is will either (or both) of Jon’s new “girlfriends” – Hailey Glassman and Kate Major – be featured in the new season.  A TLC spokesperson has only said that “As far as new people and places that may be cycling into Jon and Kate’s lives, we’re taking it on a case-by-case basis.”
