Amy Winehouse not guilty on assault charges.
Talented but troubled British singer Amy Winehouse is back on the front of the newspapers again but this time something went right for once.
The last time we all saw Ms Winehouse she was shambling around on vacation in St Lucia begging tourists to buy her drinks because her father Mitch had banned the hotel staff from serving her. However she re-emerged this week to face charges in a British court that she assaulted a female fan last year.
Arriving at court on the first day of her hearing it seems like the old Amy may just be back. The straggly look is gone and she was sporting her trademark beehive without a hair out of place, atop a very smart gray suit. Most observers agreed she looked better than she had for a very long time.
Burlesque dancer Sherene Flash had accused the 25 year old singer of punching her in the face when a photo op got a little out of hand, something that Amy denied vehemently. The incident took place at the Prince’s Trust Ball in London Last September, which Amy was attending she said because her god daughter was a performer in the show as was Ms. Flash.
According to her accuser, after being asked to pose for a fan photo she attacked the dancer, while Amy said she merely pushed her away because the woman was drunk and was scaring her. Her lawyer explained that rationale to the judge saying that “five foot seven in burlesque heels puts you at quite an advantage over five foot two in ballet pumps”. He also got Ms Flash to admit she had been quite “buzzed” at the time of the incident but she did not feel that she had been the aggressor.
Apparently the judge saw things Amy’s way and stating that “having heard all the evidence from all the witnesses I cannot be sure that this was not an accident”. At that point all charges were dismissed and Amy was free to leave, today dressed in a neat leather jacket and black dress combo. She told the waiting press “I’m relieved and I’m going home.”
This should be just the start of Amy’s comeback. She is rumored to be working on another album at last and her troubled marriage to Cecil Fielder Blake, the man she says introduced her to drugs and who her father says “ruined her life” will become final next month.
