DJ Am Found Dead In His Manhattan Apartment Of Apparent Drug Overdose.

He survived a flaming plane crash less than a year ago, escaping the wreckage with friend Travis Barker while four others aboard died. But DJ AM a.k.a Adam Goldstein apparently could not escape the drug problems that had plagued him for years. He was found dead at his Manhattan apartment on Friday night, the apparent cause a drugs overdose.
Police discovered the 36 year old’s body after concerned friends had been unable to reach the celebrity DJ for a few days. When one went to apartment and received no answer to his repeated knocks he called 911.
According to the police officers who discovered Goldstein he was dressed only in sweatpants and when the body was rolled over for identification they found a bag of crack stuck to the chest.
Ironically Adam Goldstein was slated to appear in a new MTV reality show that helped stage interventions for drug addicted teenagers, something he could relate to as he battled both drug addiction and obesity in his younger years. In a 2005 interview he told People magazine that he was once in fact “the only fat crack head in L.A” but claimed that he had been clean since 1997 when a failed suicide attempt shocked him into seeking treatment.
Speaking a few months ago about his new TV role Goldstein said “It makes me feel great. People were there for me when I asked for help, and I had no idea how to stop, so I’m there for them.”
DJ AM was a fixture on the celebrity nightclub scene coast to coast for years but he gained extra fame when he became engaged to reality star and fellow former drug addict Nicole Ritchie in 2005. The stormy relationship ended just weeks before they were due to wed and after that Goldstein dated a string of starlets including Mandy Moore and model Jessica Stam.
It appears that everyone who was close to Adam Goldstein is shocked by the news of his death. He was booked to appear at The Rain nightclub in Las Vegas on the evening his body was discovered, and had thrown out the first pitch at the Mets new Citi Field last Sunday, appearing fit and good spirits.
One of his friends Scott Schroer, also a DJ, was especially stunned.” After the accident, he changed, “he told reporters, referring to Goldstein’s close call on the South Carolina runway “He was more humble. He cared more about people and life.”
DJ AM was an active Twitter –er but his last tweet posted on Tuesday now seems more poignant. He posted “New York, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain’t always what it seems.” which is a well known Grandmaster Flash lyric.
Many of his famous friends took to their own Twitter pages to pay tribute to him, including Pete Wentz, John Meyer and Ashton Kutscher.
