Could CIA Interrogation Techniques Land George W. Bush Behind Bars?

by MikeScholtes on Sep.07, 2009, under George W. Bush

There are a lot of people that believe that George W Bush and his administration made a lot of mistakes during their eight years in power but were some really bad enough that George W or some of his top aides could actually end up spending time behind bars?

Although that may be a stretch of the imagination to a great degree ,the new Obama administration is taking the first steps to initiate an investigation that may ultimately lead to some very high ranking persons from the Bush administration ending up in some very hot water indeed.

The issue at hand is the way that the CIA under George Bush conducted the interrogation of suspects in connection with the “war on terror”. Although an investigation into the actions of the CIA is something that President Obama has shied away from in the past stating that he wants “to look forward, rather than back”, Attorney General Eric Holder insists that the evidence of abuses that he has been presented with are compelling enough for an investigation to be instigated . “I fully realize that my decision to commence this preliminary review will be controversial,” Holder said in a statement issued to the press “In this case, given all of the information currently available, it is clear to me that this review is the only responsible course of action for me to take.”

Holder has already named a special prosecutor , John Durham, to investigate certain cases of prisoner abuse that were documented in CIA records and to probe issues such as why video tapes of some of these interrogations were apparently destroyed by the CIA.

George W Bush and his then Vice President Dick Cheney have consistently denied that torture was ever used during the questioning of any subjects and that all the interrogation techniques they authorized were well within the limits of the law. There is however mounting evidence that that is not the case. A report compiled by CIA officials themselves admits that certain techniques used by their agents were “unauthorized, improvised, inhumane and undocumented”.

But how will this all lead back to Bush and company? According to a former administration legal advisor, Jack Goldsmith, he and some of his colleagues have always been conscious of the fact that the actions taken to “keep America safe” after 9/11 may one day end up with the President and his top officials being investigated and perhaps held accountable for any illegal activities they knew about or even sanctioned.

It is likely that the investigation will take a long time to complete, but considering that Bill Clinton was impeached just for lying about his relationship with “that woman” there is little doubt that some very high profile politicos both past and present will be watching its progress very closely.

I think that we are loosing our minds if we condenm our former president George W. Bush. How it is possible that he will be held accountable for trying to save us from future terrorists attacks.

How our current principles could be so conflictive and absurd? Who are we following now? He was our president, he did the best he could, we were attacked, five thousand citizens were lost on one single day, in less that 4 hours.

What about to punish Mr. Clinton, who knew where Osama was and decided not to eliminate that Devil’s son?

He is the one to be prosecuted. He did nothing when the first attack to the Twin Towers, when the attack to the US Cole, when the attack to our ambassies. Why they do not talk about it?

If this country condenm Mr. Bush, for using whatever was necessary to prevent future attacks, then we do not deserve anything, and will be recorded in our history as the most inmorals, ungrateful and rotten bastards ever born.

What is it with the Left and their uncontrollable, rabid desire to herd their domestic opposition into political prisons? It must be genetic. Lenin did it, Stalin did it, Hitler (yes, Hitler was a leftist) did it, Mao did it, and Castro and Chavez do it today. Knock it off. You look like idiots.

This really ticks me off. Has everyone forgotten 9/11? Have we forgotten the thousands of Americans who died at the hands of Bin Laden and his terrorists that day? Have we forgotten the fear and fury that swept through America after this happened? George W. Bush had, perhaps unspoken, a mandate from the American people to find out who was responsible for the unconscienable demolition of the occupied Twin Towers in New York City and to then punish them. Have we forgotten that a jet was being steered toward the White House at the same time, and the people thereon who died when they made a conscious decision to bring that jet down rather than allow the terrorists to crash it into its intended target? Now, that jackass, Obama, and his gang of thugs and criminals, are attempting to divert America’s attention away from himself and the horrible job he’s done since his election to the previous administration and the fact that they were doing what they had to do to pump information out of TERRORISTS! If the CIA went a little overboard, thereby offending the liberals’ precious sensibilities, then I say “So what?” We’ve enjoyed 8 years of no more attacks and, for that, we should be saying “Thank you!” to George Bush and Dick Cheney, not threatening the CIA who, during their administration, took whatever measures they had to take to find out what they needed to know to avert any more strikes like the ones we suffered on 9/11/2001.

I wish I could believe Bush and his administration will pay for their crimes but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Your comparison with the Clinton impeachment is right on the mark. But the absurdity of that versus the gravity of Bush’s war crimes is not something that will be taken into account, unfortunately.
