Oasis and The Gallagher Brothers Are Done With Each Other – Again.

by MikeScholtes on Aug.30, 2009, under Gallagher Brothers

The talented but temperamental Gallagher brothers are at it again, but this time the arguments were apparently so bad that their band, Oasis, no longer exists as of Friday night.

The band were in the middle of a huge worldwide tour in support of their latest album Dig Out Your Soul, but just a few minutes before they were due to hit the stage at the Rock-en-Seine Festival in Paris on Friday the band’s manager informed the waiting crowd that Oasis would not be performing that night, that the rest of the tour was cancelled and that the band in their current form simply did not exist anymore.

The Gallagher brothers have always had a rocky relationship, but neither has ever gone to extreme of officially quitting before, although both have stormed offstage before after public altercations.

Earlier in the week Liam Gallagher had denied rumors of a possible break up saying that the band was “only just getting started”. By Friday though, it appeared that Noel had a different opinion. On Friday he posted his own statement on the band’s official website “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer. Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

Much of the Gallagher’s previous arguing they both admit has been fueled by heavy drinking on the part of them both, but Noel Gallagher now claims to have been “relatively sober” since 2008. But with or without alcohol he is normally extremely outspoken to say the least and has very few problems upsetting people with his views.  He sold his luxury villa in Ibiza after fellow British singer James Blunt moved in nearby telling press “I can’t stand living there in the knowledge that Blunt is nearby making terrible music.” And he once said he that hoped Damon Albarn, who fronted their rival “Britpop” band Blur would “catch AIDS and die.”

Many fans however believe this is just yet another spat between the brothers, of whom Noel is the older that will blow over. In the past Noel has broken his brother’s foot with a cricket bat when he disturbed a solo recording session and carried on with a live MTV performance when Liam (who provides the majority of the bands vocals) feigned a sore throat leaving Noel to carry the load. Liam then spent the entire performance sitting in a VIP box heckling his brother’s performance and throwing objects at the stage.

They’ll be back, they always are. I wonder how long it will take all those people to get their money back though. Concert tickets are not cheap so it was a mean thing to do to fans who had saved up to see them.
